Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Newcastle.



We offer a wide-ranging curriculum to our Further Education students, including Arboriculture, Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal Management, Countryside and the Environment, Engineering, Equine, Floristry, Motorsport, Professional Tree Surgery, Outdoor Adventure Sport, Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness and Uniformed Public Services.


We have an exciting opportunity for 2 x minibus drivers with previous people, and ideally student, transport experience to join our Accommodation, Conferencing and Transport Department at our York campus. This role will be working 37 hours per week, on a permanent term time only contract.


We are seeking an individual who will be responsible for transport our students to and from college at the beginning and end of the day other duties may include, fleet maintenance and driving for curriculum off site visits. Sector experience and knowledge specifically in people transport will be beneficial.


The successful candidate will undertake daily transport services to and from the York centre at the start and the end of the day. Additional driving opportunities maybe included and alongside the Transport supervisor and other drivers the general maintenance and upkeep of the fleet vehicles will be required.


With excellent knowledge of transport servicing and fleet management, you will have great communication and customer service skill with a baseline knowledge of the Yorkshire area.

Job Description




Main Purpose of the role




Working with other drivers and the Transport Supervisor you will ensure that fleet vehicles are well maintained and presented, kept running and comply with current regulatory requirements.

You will complete driving duties and work with our student transport and fleet providers to ensure that fleet and transport operations are effective, efficient and fit for purpose.

Key Tasks / responsibilities:





All tasks to be carried out in a consistent manner with the corporation’s culture.



To assist in the driving of mini-buses/fleet transport on designated routes to specific time tables
Provide cover for fleet and transport operations, if necessary
Routine maintenance, checking and cleaning of the college vehicle fleet
Dealing with fleet and transport enquiries from customers
Working with the College student transport providers in delivering the student transport service
Ensuring that the fleet is well maintained and presented at all times
Assist with the management of fleet repairs and fuelling activities/services
Deal with fleet and transport requests and service issues where requested
Assist in emergency/response in relation to fleet and transport services
General support duties to the Transport Co-ordinator
